Where are all the flippable mattresses?

by Cory Thornhill on February 26, 2016

The fippable mattresses are getting harder to find. They are still out there but you have to look for them. I carry a few in my store.

So whats the deal?....

My opinion is the industry thinks that if you flip your mattress it will make the system worse. They found that if one side has a small body impression on one side of say 1/2" an inch then you turn the mattress over and get another body impression of another 1/2" inch, well thats 1" now.

I do carry them in my store in the less expensive options. Come check them out.

OK, Mattress Man Cory just signed up for MS150

by Cory Thornhill on February 02, 2016

I did it again, I just signed up to ride my bike from Houston to Austin and help raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. I have done this ride a couple of times and it really pushes a person to the edge. The ride is about 188 miles and takes two days to complete. We stop in La grange and camp out in a tent half way. I am a little scared and a little excited and know Mattress Man will complete the task. I am on a team called Pedal Pedal Pedal. Watch out for the Mattress Man Shirt if you happen to be watching the ride at all. Thanks for the support!

Natural Mattresses in Austin

by Cory Thornhill on January 29, 2016

I am a firm believer in a Certified third party to test foams in our mattresses we carry. All of the foams are Certi-Pur that says they do not have flame retardants and other harmful chemicals.  With that being said you really have to look out for these companies saying organic etc because they say is then raise the price on you. The wave of facebook and the I want to be organic phase left some retailers to take advantage of the consumer.

Regardless of what you’ll see on some sites, it’s impossible for anything to be “truly chemical-free” or “100% nontoxic” — even the purest untouched wilderness landscape contains some chemical traces, and pure spring water can be toxic in high-enough doses.

Consumers want to know: “Is the foam certified?”

CertiPUR-US® is a not-for-profit certification program for foam used in bedding products and upholstered furniture. When you see the CertiPUR-US® seal, you can be confident that the flexible polyurethane foam inside meets CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions, and durability, and has been analyzed by independent, accredited testing laboratories.

CertiPUR-US® approved foams are:

  • Made without ozone depleters
  • Made without PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants
  • Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals
  • Made without formaldehyde
  • Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)

So please be careful when it says organic. All you need to know is if it is a Certified foam.

Oh yeah, dont smoke in bed
